Grant Writer

Position Overview
The Grant Writer/Manager plays a critical role in advancing PIPCLT’s mission by securing funding that supports organizational growth, program expansion, and long-term sustainability. This role is responsible for researching funding opportunities, developing compelling proposals, managing the full grant lifecycle, and building strong relationships with funders. The Grant Writer/Manager serves as a bridge between programs, finance, and leadership, ensuring that grant strategies align with organizational priorities and demonstrate measurable impact.
Scope of Responsibility
Funding Strategy: Drive PIPCLT’s grant portfolio, aligning opportunities with the organization’s strategic plan and program needs.
Grant Lifecycle Management: Lead all aspects of the grant process, from prospect research and proposal development to compliance reporting.
Relationship Management: Build and steward relationships with foundations, corporations, and government funders to secure and sustain long-term partnerships.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner with program and finance staff to develop budgets, collect data, and demonstrate impact in grant proposals and reports.
Organizational Sustainability: Diversify and expand funding sources to strengthen the financial foundation of the land trust.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research & Prospecting
Identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government entities.
Maintain a pipeline of prospective funders aligned with organizational priorities.
Track trends in philanthropic and government funding relevant to commercial land trusts and community development.
2. Proposal Development & Submission
Write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and concept papers tailored to funder guidelines.
Develop proposal budgets in partnership with finance staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Ensure timely submission of all proposals and supporting materials.
Ensure submission of grant applications totaling at least $750,000 in requested funds per month
3. Grant Administration & Compliance
Oversee post-award grant management, including grant agreements, reporting deadlines, and compliance with funder requirements.
Collaborate with program staff to collect outcomes data, success stories, and impact metrics for reporting.
Monitor expenditures and ensure financial accountability to funders.
4. Reporting & Communication
Develop progress reports and updates that highlight the organization’s achievements and impact.
Provide grant activity updates to leadership and the board on a regular basis.
Maintain an internal grants calendar to track deadlines, submissions, and reporting obligations.
5. Funder Engagement & Stewardship
Build and maintain positive relationships with program officers, foundation representatives, and government contacts.
Represent PIPCLT at funder meetings, site visits, and community events as needed.
Develop stewardship strategies to keep funders engaged beyond individual grants.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or related field.
3–5+ years of proven success in grant writing and management, with awarded grants from foundations, corporations, or government agencies.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt tone for diverse audiences.
Experience developing budgets and collaborating with finance teams.
Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
Familiarity with grant databases, prospect research tools, and funder portals.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in a related field.
Knowledge of community development, commercial real estate, or land conservation sectors.
Experience managing federal or state grants with complex compliance requirements.
Background in fundraising strategy beyond grant writing, such as donor cultivation or capital campaigns.
